September 15, 2008: QualSec" has moved operations from North Logan, Utah to Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The company's flagship product is the NanoNose, an electronic nose technology that instantaneously analyzes and quantifies airborne particles for the homeland security, health care, environmental, petrochemical, and food industries.
Chapel Hill is part of North Carolina's Research Triangle, a region possessing a collaborative and innovative climate and proximity to world-renowned research universities, making it a recognized prominent high-tech R&D center in the US.
"The talent pool alone would be reason enough for the move," said QualSec CEO J.E. Hand, in a statement. "We believe access to cutting edge technology is critical for QualSec's continued success," he said, adding that the company expects to announce more "key hires" in the coming days.
In 2005, the Triangle was named the most high-tech region of the U.S. by the Silicon Valley Leadership Group and the best city for biotechnology by the Milken Institute. In 2004, Forbes named the U. of North Carolina at Chapel Hill one of the most entrepreneurial campuses in the nation.
